RM Compare - Moving into BETA

BETA - what is it? Why are you doing it?

The term BETA, in our context, refers to an extended validation phase encompassing the entire RM Compare system, not just the software development aspect.

Our innovation phase has enabled us to test, iterate, and arrive at a core set of features and functionalities that we believe will deliver substantial value to end users. We've also gained a deeper understanding of crucial elements such as onboarding, licensing, fulfilment, contracting, support, and customer success. This knowledge empowers us to extend our service to a broader user base than before. This expansion will further enhance our understanding of the system's functionality, usability, reliability, and compatibility before we transition to general availability.

Transitioning to BETA necessitates confidence in our technical infrastructure's ability to handle the expected surge in demand. We are prepared for this and look forward to the valuable insights this phase will provide

How long will the BETA period last for?

We are not setting a fixed time on this however we do not expect it to be less than 8 months. Much will depend on how quickly we can learn which in turn is dependent on how much the service is being used. Our aim is to make the product generally available as soon as possible. It is important to note however that in reality we are always in BETA in the sense that we are always testing and always learning.

Can I rely on the BETA service?

RM Compare has been built to the highest technical standards using modern development processes and techniques. RM has been in business for over 50 years and remains a global leader in the education technology sector. Our BETA release is not an indication of a sub-standard build or an expectation of failure. Instead it is a further demonstration of good practice recognising the importance of continuous discovery and improvement.

How can I access the BETA service?

What can I expect during the BETA period?

As we have mentioned we expect the product to be stable and resilient offering an excellent service to all users. We will continue to improve the service as we learn. In doing so we will provide a constant stream of new value in the form of new features, functionality, and an improved user experience. The RM Compare team will continue to be actively involved with all users and there will be opportunity to share ideas and to collaborate directly.

Will RM Compare On Demand be part of the BETA programme?

Yes! However you will need to be on an Advanced Plan. If you are interested in this exciting option please get in touch.

What happens when the BETA programme ends?

We will let all our users and customers know when we intend to end the BETA period. Unless stipulated otherwise, existing contracts will be honoured.

Our expectation is that our assumptions around value will be validated and that all BETA users will be moved onto standard terms (under General Availability). It is our intention to provide preferential terms to BETA users as part of this process (To be confirmed).

If our assumptions are not validated however, we reserve the option to close the service.

How will the cost of the service change between BETA and General Availability? Will I get trapped?!

A key learning for the BETA period is to properly understand the value of the service so we can price it appropriately and design plans that meet the needs of all customer groups. You will find an indication of BETA pricing available here which has been based on work undertaken as part of our innovation work. We recognise the concern that BETA customers have on this matter, particularly the possibility of encountering a meaningful change in price at the end of the BETA period. Our intention is to avoid this and where possible to offer preferential pricing to BETA customers during the switch to General Availability.
