Understanding Parent and Child Connections

" It’s like a school organizing a big art contest, inviting other schools to join, and then everyone helps judge the pictures to find the best ones! Only the Parent can start these big projects, but any school can join as a Child."

Some Licence Centres are restricted to only being a Child, while others can be a Child or a Parent. The Licence Plan governs this. Currently (16 May 2025), Basic and Advanced Plans can only take the Child role, while Enterprise Plans can do both. The Features and Functionality page describes the current status.

Only Parents can have their own Connector Code. A Child can request a connection with a Parent by using this code.

Using this logic we can now see the boundaries and constraints for connections.

Parent and Child relationships empowers users to build highly flexible relationship models

Datashare

Connectors can have Datashare permissions which allow the Parent Licence Centre to view data in the Child Licence Centre. See Private Sessions for more information.
