New - Introducing the new RM Compare Modular Ecoystem
For years, RM Compare has helped teachers, exam boards, universities and recruiters turn thousands of “which is better?” decisions into fair, reliable rankings of complex work.
What began as a powerful way to compare pieces of work has now grown into something bigger: a complete ecosystem for creating, managing, and using gold‑standard judgements at scale.
Today we’re introducing RM Compare | Live, Studio, Hub – three modules that work together as a continuous flywheel.
Why RM Compare needed an ecosystem
Organisations who started with small comparative judgement pilots are now asking a different question: “How do we make this the way we assess here?”
That means solving for much more than the core ACJ engine: you need to capture work from the real world, manage judges, govern data, and plug into existing platforms and policies.
We’ve spent the last few years building that surrounding infrastructure – roles and permissions, licence centres, quality assurance tools, reporting, and multi‑tenant management – so RM Compare can act as judgement infrastructure, not just an experiment.
Meet the three modules
Think of RM Compare now as three tightly connected modules that you can use on their own, but which work best together.
- 📳|Live – Assess on demand against trusted standards
Turn professional judgement into a mobile‑first, on‑demand experience, powered by our Companion App so teachers, trainers and recruiters can capture work wherever it happens and compare it against existing standards. (live.compare.rm.com) - 💻|Studio – Create and refine new standards.
Design and run full comparative judgement sessions to build high‑fidelity rank orders and distil them into “rulers” – reusable standards that capture your shared understanding of quality in a subject, task or role. (studio.compare.rm.com) - 🔗|Hub – Share, govern, and connect
Decide which centres and programmes can access which standards, manage tenants and licence centres, and control how data flows in and out of RM Compare so you can meet your privacy and sovereignty obligations.
You can start with whichever module solves your immediate problem, then grow into the others as your use of comparative judgement matures.
The flywheel: how Live, Studio and Hub reinforce each other
At the heart of this launch is a simple idea: each time you use RM Compare, you’re not just running an assessment – you’re adding energy to a flywheel.
- In Studio, you run sessions that turn expert judgements into ranked outcomes and reusable standards.
- Through Hub, you share those standards safely across centres and programmes, and control how they’re used.
- In Live, teachers and assessors draw on those standards on demand, generating new evidence about how learners are performing.
Every cycle makes your standards richer, your governance clearer, and your assessments faster to deliver. Over time, you build a growing library of human‑validated gold standards that can be invoked wherever you need them.
Built to fit into your existing ecosystem
We know most organisations already have platforms for test delivery, candidate management, learning and analytics.
Rather than replacing those, RM Compare is being opened up so its capabilities can be called as services via APIs, letting you trigger judging from within existing environments and feed outcomes straight into downstream systems.
The result is that comparative judgement becomes an interoperable layer of judgement infrastructure – not a silo
What this means for you
If you’re already using RM Compare, nothing is taken away: your existing sessions sit naturally inside 💻|Studio, and you can start exploring 📳|Live and 🔗|Hub as new ways to deploy and govern your standards.
If you’re new to comparative judgement, you can start anywhere – a one‑off Studio project, a Live use‑case in a single subject, or a Hub‑led rollout across a trust, faculty or country – and grow into the full ecosystem over time.
The engine is proven, the ecosystem is here, and the flywheel is turning.
The real question is: what do you want to measure next?
FAQ
Do I have to use all three modules together? No. You can start with the module that solves your immediate problem and add the others over time. They’re designed to work well alone, but even better as a connected flywheel.
What happens to the RM Compare I already know? The comparative judgement engine and “classic” RM Compare experience now sit within Studio - you will see some subtle re-branding. Nothing is taken away; instead, Live and Hub add new ways to deploy and manage what you already do.
How does Hub support organisations and system leaders? Hub lets you control who can access which standards, manage tenants and licence centres, and align RM Compare with your data, policy, and integration requirements across a whole organisation.
How will the new ecosystem affect our existing data and projects? Your existing projects, items, and results remain available; they simply sit within the appropriate module (typically Studio), so you can continue as normal while exploring new options like Live and Hub.
Can we use our existing standards (rulers) in Live? Yes! ..... but not quite yet. This is in development and is coming very soon. Key an eye on the roadmap.
Is there extra training required to move to Live, Studio, and Hub? Core judging concepts stay the same, so most users need only light orientation; more advanced training is available for those managing large programmes or configuring Hub.
