📏Ruler: Time for Tea
How strong is your cuppa?
Time for Tea is a simple example Ruler that judges the overall strength of a cup of tea.
It is designed to show how a Ruler can be explained to users in a clear, lightweight format before they start using the system more widely.
Overview
This Ruler judges the overall strength and appearance of a cup of tea. In this example, users compare one cup against others and place it on a scale from weak to strong. It is used as a demonstration or training example rather than a formal assessment tool!
How this Ruler was built
The Time for Tea Ruler was created from a set of tea images representing a range of strengths, from very weak to very strong. Expert Tea connoisseurs judged pairs of tea images using 💻RM Compare | Studio, allowing the items to be placed into a reliable rank order.
The resulting Ruler gives users a shared reference point for comparing new tea images against the known standard (aka the rank).
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Items used to build the Ruler | 20 tea images |
| Judges involved | 12 |
| Comparison method | 💻RM Compare | Studio |
| Output Reliability | 0.87 |
Scale and anchor examples
The Ruler places cups of tea on a scale from weak to strong. Higher positions indicate tea that appeared darker, richer or more brewed in comparison with other examples. Users should treat nearby positions as broadly similar and avoid over-interpreting very small differences,
How to use this Ruler
- Capture or upload an image of the tea you want to judge.
- Compare it against tea items already placed on the Ruler.
- Review where the item lands on the scale.
- Use the result as a simple indication of relative tea strength.
This Ruler works best when all images are captured under reasonably similar lighting and from a similar angle.
Notes and limitations
This example Ruler is intended to demonstrate the concept of an on-demand Ruler in a simple and memorable way. It is not a validated assessment instrument.
Results may be affected by differences in cup shape, photo quality, lighting and background.
