RM Compare Newsletter - December 2024
This month we have been out-and-about around the UK meeting and discussing all things assessment. We started in London to get a better understanding about the progress of the Governments Curriculum and Assessment review
Next up we were back at the TTS offices in Nottingham supporting Victoria Merrick in her work with the E-Act Multi Academy Trust, this time with a focus on Physical Education. Later the same day we attended the Learning and Technology Awards - although we did not win it was great experience.
The month ended with a Symposium held with our partners at AWS. This was led again by Merrick education and atracted over 100 attendees. At the same time the wider RM Assessment team were busy at the Federation of Awarding Bodies conference.
There is no substiture for meeting people face to face to better understand their challenges and to think carefully about RM Compare might be able to help. It's been a busy year for events but worth every mile travelled and hour spent.
November review
Less is More: Adaptive Comparative Judgement and the Future of Assessment: On Monday 4th December we travelled to London to attend the regional roadshow for the ongoing DfE Curriculum and Assessment review. I was joined by over 150 others from across the sector to learn more about the review and to offer contributions to the ongoing work.
Using Adaptive Comparative Judgement to assess Physical Education at scale across school groups: Can we reliably, efficiently and effectively using Adaptive Comparative Judgement to assess Physical Education using Video artefacts? It seems we can!
Autumn Symposium 24 Review: The inaugural symposium, led by Vicky Merrick and Merrick Education, took place in late November. Hosted by our partners at AWS at their London HQ, the event attracted over 100 curriculum and assessment leaders from around the UK and beyond.
Isn't it about time we started to measure what we treasure?: Isn't it time we started to measure what we treasure? A presentation by members of the Dance Adjudication Newtwork at the recent Symposium laid down a clear challenge - think much more clearly about what you value and then build assessments that encourage rather than discourage value creation.
