The Standards Repository
The Standards Repository is the governed evidence base behind your shared standards.
It holds authentic work and the information needed to understand, create and use a standard over time. Rather than keeping standards in separate assessment sessions, the repository provides a shared place for the evidence, ranks and rulers that support them.
A repository is more than an item store - it is the evidence behind a trusted shared standard.
What it does
The repository connects the RM Compare shared-standards model:

The repository is managed in RM Compare | 🧭Hub. It provides the persistent foundation for standards that are created in Studio and used on demand in Live.
What it contains
A Standards Repository can include:
- Authentic work — responses, portfolios, performances or projects.
- Context — such as task, subject, level or assessment purpose.
- Ranked evidence — items that have been comparatively judged.
- Reference material — approved examples that make the standard visible.
- Rulers — reusable standards that can be shared and applied.
- Governance information — ownership, access and review status.
The exact contents will depend on your organisation’s assessment purpose and configuration.
Why it matters
A rubric or grade descriptor can describe a standard, but authentic work shows what the standard looks like in practice.
The repository gives teachers, assessors and quality leaders access to a broader range of relevant work than they would normally see in their own class, centre or cohort. This supports more consistent professional judgement, stronger calibration and more meaningful discussion about quality.
It also means the evidence and expertise used to create a standard can be retained and reused, rather than being lost when a single assessment or moderation session ends.
How it is used
- Collect and curate appropriate authentic work.
- Select and rank work in Studio using comparative judgement.
- Create and share a ruler through Hub.
- Use the ruler in Live to benchmark new work.
- Review and maintain the evidence and standard over time.
Good governance
Standards Repositories should be managed carefully. Organisations should control who can add, access, share and approve material, and ensure that content is appropriate for its intended use.
